"Design Activism" is a collaborative initiative aimed at addressing waste reduction on the Ohio State University (OSU) campus while fostering a deeper understanding of the significance of composting. In partnership with GreenScope, this project prioritized student engagement to bring about positive environmental change.
At its core, the project featured two innovative mobile carts strategically positioned around campus. These carts served as dynamic hubs, housing informative zines, composting location maps, and practical composting bins. Furthermore, the carts included sign-up sheets for students interested in volunteering for sustainable practices across campus.
Our dedicated team managed the operation of these carts, ensuring widespread outreach to students and campus staff. The primary goal was to inspire active participation in composting initiatives and disseminate essential knowledge on waste reduction strategies.
Key Deliverables:
1. Mobile Activism Carts: Two purpose-built mobile hubs equipped with composting bins, informational zines, and maps.
2. Visual Identity Package: A captivating graphics package designed to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the carts and grab attention.
3. Activism Zine Handbook: A concise and engaging publication outlining the principles of composting and waste reduction, emphasizing the role of design activism.
4. Volunteer Sign-up Sheets: Integrated into the carts to streamline student participation in campus sustainability efforts.
5. Documentation: An 80-page book documenting the entire Design Activism project, capturing its conception, planning, execution, and the measurable impact on campus sustainability.
The Design Activism initiative not only resulted in tangible assets such as the mobile carts but also contributed significantly to instilling a culture of sustainability within the OSU community.
